Is Clause “Deposit will be returned without interest” in Lease Legal?
We live in a rent controlled apartment in Los Angeles. I understand that by law, the landlord has to pay interest on the deposit. However our landlord put a clause in the lease, saying that "deposit will be returned without interest".
Is that legal?
LA Housing department says it’s a civil matter and I’d have to hire a lawyer. Has anybody ever dealt with this?

Terminal Cancer was cause of death. She had it hand written, she was too weak to get to a lawyer. She had less time then informed by her health care provider.
She died in less then a week after writing it. Please help. Her body will have to be kept as there are no funds to take care of the funeral exp. The family is not offering help and are posing problems to the one desinated to make sure her wishes were carried out.

The lawyer’s fees will be a % of the increase in severance package plus legal costs per hours spent. How do I control the "legal costs per hours spent"? how do i know if she worked 10 hours, 2 or 30 hours when we’re done and she provides the report/account balance? is there a smarter way to negotiate with her fairly or control the hours spent and avoid surprises at the end? Can you write your own will and how does it become legal?
Do you have to get a lawyer to write a will or can you write your own and what do you have to do to make it legal? I am trying to help my mother since my father passed and know very little myself. And what has to be done so that I can take care of her affairs when she is gone? Is there somewhere to get the proper forms? She is asking for my help so I appreciate your help. Thanks
